ISTD TAP 

Tap Dance is an exciting, percussive, rhythmical dance form. The dancer uses their feet to strike the floor, beating out a melody, with tap shoes which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to give the distinctive sound. Tap dance is a theatrical art form often seen on screen and stage in musicals.

ISTD MODERN 

Modern dance is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style.

 

CECCHETTI BALLET

Cecchetti Classical Ballet has a rich heritage and combines a clear and logical pathway of technical progression with inherent musicality and a unique sense of style. The Cecchetti Method and principles have been formative in the training of many of the world’s greatest ballet dancers, choreographers and directors.

TEENY TAP & TENUS

Our preschool classes are specially designed for our youngest students aged 2 1/2 - 5 years.   Fun games, songs and exercises with the use of props engages our tiny dancers as they learn the fundamentals of dance.

ISTD EXAMINATIONS

 

 

Here at DSL, we follow the ISTD syllabus in our core subjects of Tap Modern and Ballet.  Students have the option to take exams in all core subjects from the age of 5.  Grades start from Primary through to Vocational grades.  Each exam passed is a recognised Ofqual qualification, with UCAS points gained from grade 6 upwards.  As a school, we feel that examinations give our students a sense of achievement, helps gain confidence and gain exam experience from a young age

STREET DANCE

 

 

 

Within Street Dance class students to learn the latest moves to the latest music.  It is a very fast-paced class which helps to prepare and teach those students wishing to take auditions in the future how to 'pick up' and retain the choreography quickly.  Classes available for students 5 years +

BI-ANNUAL SHOWS AND PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCES

 

 

Bi-annually DSL performs our school show at a local theatre. All our students are involved, however, it is optional.  it gives the students the opportunity to showcase their talents to friends and family.  it is a fun enjoyable experience for all.  DSL have also been privileged to perform at the prestiges Royal Albert Hall and London O2 arena.  We  find opportunities to perform at local events too.

CONTEMPORARY & LYRICAL

 

 

Contemporary and lyrical dance is a genre of dance performance that developed during the mid-twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the dominant genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world.  This class teaches students how to perform and express through dance at a slower pace using a combination of modern, jazz and ballet moves.  Class available for students 7 years +
